Buddy Up For Better Results

Before we get into this post, I'd like to remind those who participate in valentine's day that it's just six days away. Also, on a related note, a brief period of discounted chocolates begins in seven days.

Ah, January — a time of fresh starts and new beginnings. Goal-setting takes top priority as we look at the year ahead and our Facebook feeds are filled with motivational memes to help us kickstart the new year.

Now, February is here and perhaps the sparkle of the New Year's gym ambitions has faded a bit. You may find yourself rushing home after work to enjoy the three minutes of daylight you have left before diving into evening activities, or sleeping in a bit later simply because it's hibernation season. February is the time of year when many people need a kick in the pants to get going again. 

You are not alone!

If you're feeling weary and having a hard time keeping that motivation up, you're not the only one. That means there are others out there who are feeling the same way, so why not form a mutually beneficial motivational situation and find a gym partner? 

There are many benefits to working out in pairs or groups and high on that list is a sense of accountability. When you have a scheduled appointment with someone else, you're more likely to show up. That's huge since getting here is sometimes the toughest battle. 

Once you're here, having a buddy helps you stay motivated to get through your workout. A little healthy competition can also spark a more intense workout than you would have done on your own, all while passing the time more quickly!

"But I don't know anyone who would make a good gym partner." Come in anyway and try a class! Classes are a great way to meet like-minded people with similar fitness levels. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation and encourage each other in classes. You may find someone else in the same boat.

Studies have shown that you become a combination of the five people you spend the most time with so be sure to surround yourself with people who reflect your goals in fitness and in life.
