Today we're taking a look at our L.I.F.E. class, or Low-Impact Fitness For Everyone. L.I.F.E. is a blend of low impact Cardio and strength training exercises designed to engage the whole body. This class is geared toward older, active adults; however, it can easily be adapted for any fitness level.
What to expect
Class begins with a 10-minute warm-up & stretch section designed to initially increase heart rate, blood flow, and warm-up joints & muscles. We then move to a 30-40 minute main section where format changes on a three-day class rotation to provide variety. During this portion, various pieces of equipment are used such as hand weights, weighted ball, shaker weights, resistance bands, stability balls, ankle weights, etc. The last 10 minutes focus on stretching to improve flexibility. Depending on the day, the format could include easy choreography, classic circuit training or a Tabata-style circuit. All of the exercises can either be performed standing or sitting in a chair.
What should I bring?
Please bring water to class. Also if you have your own equipment, such as hand weights or resistance bands, you are welcome to bring those along, but it is not necessary.
Does it meet my goals?
This class is perfect for those who may be starting to incorporate exercise into daily life, getting back into a routine, are post-PT or are just looking for a low-impact, medium intensity overall body workout.
What if I have limitations?
This class is best for those who can stand for an hour and do not have limiting breathing conditions such as COPD.
Currently, this class is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 AM in the turf room. Participants do NOT need to navigate stairs to access this room. Feel free to check it out and bring a friend!
